Following on from our last article, we talked about the color wheel, combinations, and psychology. While most of the color tones will complement or dominate or washout your skin tone and would be worn accordingly, some colors palate are neutral which complement suit, everyone, if wore & styled properly. Those palates are neutral colors which include white, black, grey, olive, navy & dark blue and brown. They’re called neutral because they’re not overpowering. They’re infinitely mixable, extremely versatile and compliment more intense colors as you start adding them to your wardrobe.

Now, in those shades, brown is one tone which can be mismatched because of it's the similarity to darker skin tones, if chosen correctly like Khaki or Tan, they'll complement and enhance the whole looks for which major reason they're worn as outer layers in the form of blazers, overcoats, and sweaters.
While doing it sounds easy, and it’s nearly impossible to do it wrong, people still find ways to mess it up. Here a few tips on how to style your Neutral tones:
1. All Black or All White

The easiest and most impossible match for anyone in the whole world to mess up is an all-white or all-black outfit. While in Summers, an all-white outfit while in winters and an all-black outfit will be much more suitable but can be worn year-round if done correctly. While it could be as simple as a t-shirt or a hoodie or a sweatshirt with joggers or trousers but you can make a minimal vibe or color pops with sneakers or accessories.
2. Contrast

Next option is to create contrast which could be done in two ways, a high contrast option with pairing lighter shades with darker shades like white with black or tan with navy blue and low contrast with pairing dark shade with dark shades of two different tone like charcoal black with navy blue or olive green with light grey.
3. Neutral Tailoring

Many use the word ‘beige’ as a synonym for boring, but when put across some sharply-cut tailoring, it’s a far cry from flat. Growing weary of your well-worn navy suit? Beige, then – haters be damned – is the antidote. While neutral colors can be simple at their own, try experimenting with the fabric like Linen for summers or Corduroy for winters and induce a change through texture.
4. Change the look

When we talk about neutrals, people instantly think of t-shirts, shirts, and polo while jeans or joggers which is a misconception. Colour has nothing to do with the genre, instead play around with different styles like Henley, or sweatpants, or even shorts. All black or all white doesn’t need to be completely streetwear or completely formal, it could be a mix of both the worlds.
5. Earthy Tones

As we mentioned earlier, brown is a quite tricky tone, where Earthy tone might be a neutral tone and suit every skin type, a particular shade is something to avoid which will completely depend on your skin shade. If you’ve darker shade of skin tone, opt for lighter tones of brown and if you’ve lighter shade of skin tone, opt for a darker shade of skin tones.
While neutral is the best bet, you can go wearing without a second thought, but colors are available because they’re not so safe and experimental with colors is only limited by imagination. We will talk about them in our last blog.
